Marrickville

The multi-cultural heart of Sydney’s Inner-West. From amazing Vietnamese noodles, to old school Greek tavernas, this is one of Sydney’s top foodie destinations.

Marrickville is increasingly challenging its higher profile neighbours in Enmore and Newtown as a ‘go to’ after dark destination. Recent years have seen a proliferation of wine bars, small bars, and breweries, and the suburb now has a live music scene to rival anywhere in Sydney.

3 of our Marrickville favourites

Kelby’s Cafe

A Marrickville institution. Great coffee, amazing food and friendly staff. One of our favourite cafes in the Marrickville village. The breakfasts are amazing.

Henson Park

A great place for a morning walk or to join the regulars exercising their dogs on the hill. Head down on a Saturday afternoon to watch the Newtown Jets go through their paces.

Cook’s River

Stroll by the river, visit one of the many parks, or grab a game of golf. In summer, Steel Park is a favourite for young families enjoying the water play park.

Eat

Marrickville is one of the Inner West’s most popular destinations for foodies. One of Sydney’s most frequented areas for amazing Vietnamese food, this suburb is jam packed with options. From some of Sydney’s best Banh Mi, to amazing noodles, through to old school Greek tavernas. Throw in some quality Portuguese options at places like Casa Do Benfica, and you’re spoiled for choice. On Sundays, Addison Road Markets is a popular local destination for those looking for fresh food and pop-up food stalls.

Drink

Marrickville is home to some great pubs, small bars and an increasingly popular live music scene. From more traditional style pubs like the ever popular The Henson, through to smaller bars like Gasoline Pony, Where’s Nick and Titus Jones, Marrickville is no longer a poor cousin to places like Enmore and Newtown.

Learn

Geographically, Marrickville is a large suburb compared to some of its Inner West neighbours.  As such, it’s home to quite a few private and government schools. Marrickville High School is located just opposite Henson Park, and not far from Wilkins Public School. Other primary schools in the suburb include Ferncourt Public School, Marrickville Public and Marrickville West Primary School. Local Catholic schools include St Brigid’s, St Maroun’s and Casimir Catholic College.

Play

Adults and kids alike will find Marrickville has plenty of options to keep them busy. Mackey Park, near the Cook’s River is home to a local soccer club, Marrickville Red Devils in the winter and cricket in the summer. For something more relaxed, try a little croquet at the Concordia Club, directly next door. Fraser Park plays host to the semi-pro football team by the same name, and is a good spot to pop in for some tasty Portuguese food. In addition to tennis courts, a (very) popular bowling club, a golf club, as well as access to the amazing Cook’s River foreshore, locals are spoiled for choice.

Travel

With direct train access to the city on the T3 Bankstown line via Marrickville Station, as well as easy access to Sydenham Station for some parts of the suburb, residents are able to access the Sydney CBD quickly and easily. The upcoming Metro conversion will add some short term pain for long-term gain, with Marrickville soon to have direct access to places including Barangaroo, North Sydney and Macquarie Park. The suburb is also well connected by buses, and some residents are a short walk from Dulwich Hill light rail.
